Salesforce’s Dreamforce megaconference has committed to staying in San Francisco for at least three more years, continuing a major economic boost for the city.
The city’s biggest conference, the 45,000-person Dreamforce, took over Moscone Center and the surrounding area this week, creating one of downtown’s busiest times of the year.
“We signed an agreement. We’re going to be here for three more years as long as it remains safe and secure and trusted. We’re going to keep coming back,” Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff told KTVU.
The event this year is projected to generate $93 million in local spending and create 1,400 event jobs.
Last year, Benioff threatened to leave the city if the event was marred by drugs, homelessness or crime, but things went smoothly and the conference returned this year.
Ariel Kelman, a Salesforce president and chief marketing officer, said prior to the event that the city has been a strong partner. “We love having the conference in San Francisco. It is our preference to remain here for the fullness of time,” he told the Chronicle.
Speakers this year include chip giant Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang; artificial intelligence firm Anthropic President Daniela Amodei; and actor Matthew McConaughey.
Benioff said he would stop political donations in 2020 after buying Time Magazine, but he has posted regularly on social media in support of San Francisco to “re-fund the police” and hire more officers.Merge PDF
